I am directed by the Acting Governor of Macao to acknowledge receipt of your letter No. 773/11 of the 4th. instant, and to inform you that, according to the Regula- -tion of the 20th. of December, 1910, which is very identical to that in force in Hongkong, in Macao is only permitted the con- -sumption of Morphine and Cocaine for medicinal purposes, but the exportation thereof is allowed to all the countries where their importation is neither prohibited or restricted.

Thus, in the month of June last there were exported from Macao to Mexican Ports 41 boxes of Morphine and 8 of Cocaine withdrawn by the exporters MacEwen Frickel and Com- -pany, and Watkins, Limited.

The Acting Governor feels disposed to exercise all the measures that could be adopted to prevent the entry clandestinely of Morphine and Cocaine into China Ports or into any other where such entry might be prohibited, and is at the same time prepared to modify the existing regulation should it be found insufficiently effective to meet its object in which case the same restrictive measures on import as have been adopt- -ed by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong would likewise be enforced in Macao in view of the identic position of the two Colonies in this particular matter.

Health and Fraternity.

The Colonial Secretary,

Hongkong.

(Sd.) Manuel F. da Rocha,

Acting Secretary-General.
